Spoken Word @ the Space - words to make you laugh, cry and think!

About this Event

Join us for the first Spoken Word @ The Space - words to make you laugh, cry and think, live from Dalry.

EH11's very own Jay Whittaker is our feature poet this month. She has lived and worked in Edinburgh for over 20 years. Jay's first book, Wristwatch, was the winner of the Saltire Poetry Book of the Year 2018, and is a moving and uplifting study of resilience in the face of the death of her partner and cancer treatment. Jay's second book is due out in 2020 . She enjoys performing and is particularly pleased to to do so for her home audience.

We are also delighted to welcome our second feature author Ricky Monahan Brown. Ricky is the author of Stroke: A 5% chance of survival from Sandstone Press (‘Written with searing honesty and literary panache’ – Doug Johnstone). His short fiction has been widely published, and he is producer of the irregular night of spoken word and musical entertainment, INTERROBANG?! (Saboteur Award winner, Best Spoken Word Night in Britain 2017).

There will be 4x 3 minute open mic slots available on the night. To give everyone a fair chance, the slots will be drawn from a hat (and it's quite the hat) on the night.

Entry is free, and we're following the Free Fringe model - if you enjoy the show, put a voluntary donation in a bucket at the end. Any money collected will be shared among our performers.

To help with planning, it would really help if you could sign up via Eventbrite.

We're hoping that this is the first show of many. Here's to a new spoken word event in Dalry. Hope to see you there!
