About this event
{Spontaneous Predictions] Loudest Warning brings together artists creating their unique sonic experiments and soundscapes via the Serge modules made by sound artist Charlie Kerr. The evening features music from kerpferd, Luke Fowler, Marie Vermont and Phil Julian, at south London cultural hub Spanners Club.
kerpferd
kerpferd is the duo of the concept horse and the bad producer, who first met a number of years ago when tbp built a few serge panels for tch. since then, they have regularly exchanged sounds and words, and even met up once in London for a small bite to eat. They will be performing a rare duo set with two identical three-panel serge systems built by tbp – processing, shifting, refracting, and feeding back sound to and from one another.
Charlie Kerr performs as The Bad Producer and makes synthesizers as Loudest Warning. He is also the founder of Drette and is a member of Solina Hi Fi.
the concept horse composes and releases music constructed from an array of physical sound sources relying on iteration, slight change, analog error, chance and unrepeatability. He co-organizes the concert series - knopfwissen - in Vienna, runs the label eë editions, is one half of the duo IEOGM (w/ marie vermont) and part of BILLA ENSEMBLE (w/ turmeric acid, michiu & marie vermont). tch has released solo and collaborative sounds on Students of Decay, Molt Fluid, phncrs, Gracious Host, Hard Return, Beach Buddies Records, FALT, Kashual Plastik, Steep Gloss and czaszka [rec.].
Luke Fowler is an artist, filmmaker, and musician based in Glasgow. His para-documentary films have explored counter-cultural figures including Scottish psychiatrist R. D. Laing, English composer Cornelius Cardew, and Marxist-Historian E. P. Thompson. With an emphasis on communities of people, outward thinkers, and the history of the left, his 16mm films tell the stories of alternative movements in Britain, from psychiatry to photography to music to education. Whilst some of his early films dealt with music and musicians as subjects, his later works deal with the nature of sound itself.
Marie Vermont is an artist and musician based in Vienna and has been creating music and scores since 2007. Current collaborative projects are the duo IEOGM (w/ the concept horse), the quartet BILLA ENSEMBLE (w/ Michiu, turmeric acid, the concept horse) and others, with recent live shows in the EU, UK, US and JP. Marie Vermont has released recordings on various labels such as Breton cassette, Molt Fluid, eë editions, Beach Buddies Records, Chocolate Monk, Steep Gloss, Philatelie, phncrs and Hard Return.
For Loudest Warning Evening at Spanners, Marie Vermont will work with processed Serge elements from kerpferd.
Phil Julian is a UK based composer and improviser active since the late 1990s principally working with modular electronic devices and computers.
Audio works by Julian have been published on labels including Entr’acte, Superpang, The Tapeworm, Harbinger Sound, fancyyyyy, Conditional Records, Confront Recordings, Banned Production, Beartown Records, Staalplaat's Open Circuit imprint as well as numerous compilation appearances.
