Event description

Description

If you have Type 1 Diabetes you and you love the idea of being more active this event is or you.

Perhaps you want to play soccer or five-a-side. Maybe you want to start running or going to the gym. Perhaps you just want to go shopping, mow the lawn or clean the car without fear of going hypo. If your goal is to shed a few pounds and get a little fitter but you have struggled because after 30 minutes of activity you need to eat more calories than you burned it can make it hard to stay motivated.

We have all experienced these feelings and that is why 1bloodydrop and the Diabetes Football community are once again running the #SporT1Day conference.

If Sport is not your thing, we understand

Before you decide this event is not for you please take a moment to consider this quote from Dr Alistair Lumb, a leading expert on Diabetes and Exercise "Shopping is the most dangerous sport, I see in my clinic. it causes more hypos than every other sport combined". The strategies you will learn about at this event might just help you to manage some of those everyday events like shopping, walking in the park, running for the bus, DIY, the household chores & gardening.

Who is hosting the event?

The event is run by Chris Bright, founder of The Diabetes Football Community and Paul Coker the founder of 1BloodyDrop.com. Chris & Paul have lived with Type 1 diabetes for more than 60 years between them. Chris has is a semi-professional soccer player who also has national caps for Wales for playing Futsal (the official FA version of 5-A-Side football), Paul climbed Kilimanjaro with a team of fellow Type 1's and to celebrate 40 years of living with type 1 he ran 40 half marathons in a year.

Who is speaking?

The list of speakers is still being finalised. We already have a great line up of speakers including Dr Partha Kar (Diabetologist & social media legend), Melanie Gray (Type 1 Athlete - Sprinter), Alex Richards (Sports Psychologist), Brian Hoadley (Type 1 Marathon Runner), EXTOD (the great a good of diabetes and sport from a diabetologists point of view), Craig Stanley (professional soccer player with Type 1) and of course Chris Bright & Paul Coker. few speaker spots but we promise you this day will be filled with both evidence-based information and athletes with type 1 diabetes sharing their stories of how they apply to this to make it work in real life.
