Seminars on the evening

‘The Coach-Practitioner Relationship’ with Course Leader, Nathan Thompson BSc, MSc

In this seminar we will explore the complex nature of the coach-practitioner relationship in sport. In team sports we frequently work towards the same goal, however our practices vary between professionals and despite advancements of sports science the application of such information varies largely in different sports. As a consequence, data can be misinformed and underused, ultimately effecting performance. We will offer suggestions as to how to develop the coach-practitioner relationship and how to utilise sports science data.

‘Performance Psychology’ with Lee Waters BSc, MSc, REBT

An appreciation of the psychological aspects in sport participation is becoming ever more recognised as a vital construct to the holistic understanding of the athlete. During the course of this seminar we will examine the psychological factors that contribute to enhancing or inhibiting sports performance, such as pre-competition nerves, attention, concentration and decision making.

‘The Multi-Disciplinary Coach – being all things to all players’ with Jym Brown BSc, MSc

This seminar will pose thought provoking questions around the role of coaches and their required knowledge. We will discuss what it means to be a multi-disciplinary coach and the associated implications for ongoing practice. We will also identify some key areas of development moving forward, in order to make sure we as coaches are doing the best for our athletes, rather than for ourselves.
