Description

This joint event between Homeless Link, Shelter, The Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner and The Passage, funded by London Councils is for:

  • London borough officers
  • Grants/Leaders’ Committee members
  • Front-line staff and service managers working in London-based homelessness, youth services, sexual/domestic violence and equalities-led agencies
  • London-based housing providers
  • Those working in the anti slavery field wishing to network with homelessness agencies

Event Aims:

  • To raise awareness of what modern slavery is amongst the homelessness and related sectors
  • To update delegates about recent changes in legislation and research around modern slavery
  • To identify signs that someone may be a victim of modern slavery
  • To promote networking and partnership working between the homelessness and modern slavery sectors across London
  • To improve support when working with victims of modern slavery
  • To take forward recommendations of the “Understanding and Responding to Modern Slavery within the Homelessness Sector” research report, published in January 2017.

Draft Agenda

  • Introduction to Modern Slavery – the policy context and why focus on homeless people (Kevin Hyland OBE, the Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner)
  • Understanding and Responding to Modern Slavery within the Homelessness Sector (Mick Clarke, The Passage)
  • Update on the Homelessness Reduction Act and the provisions for victims of modern slavery (Harinder Birring, Shelter)
  • Data collection and evaluation (Karen Savant, St Mungo's)
  • Identifying and supporting victims of modern slavery (FLEX)
  • Partnership working
  • Group work to discuss how the report recommendations can be taken forward
  • Event Summary, next steps and event evaluation
  • Networking lunch

There is no charge for this event since it's funded by London Councils. Places limited to 2 per organisation.
