About the session:

The ‘General Northern’ (GN) Accent: GN is a popular (if sometimes confusing) casting brief, and is often used when current casting and/or locations are open. But what does this prompt mean in an area known for its vast accent variety, and what are your options? In this session, we will discover key features that define Northern accents by comparing the larger areas of Yorkshire, Liverpool and Newcastle, and proposing a simplified template for future auditions.

About the Facilitator:

Nina Zendejas (she/her) is an internationally acclaimed US voice actor, musical theatre vocalist, accent coach and character/extreme voice specialist who has been using her voice professionally in the UK for over a decade. A sample of Nina's VO clients include Amazon, Lego, Lycra, Wren Kitchens, Dove, EY, BlackRock, Baileys, Sky, Playstation; with appearances across various video games including Horizon Forbidden West, Helldivers II, and main lead Zoe in the new release of Steel Seed (Storm in a Teacup).

As a coach she works frequently alongside Spotlight, casting agencies, and individual production companies, including Fly More Than You Can Fall starring Keala Settle (James Steel Productions), The Woods starring Bridgerton star Sam Frenchum (Tarento Productions Ltd), Zorro! West End (Aria Entertainment), and Saturday Night Fever UK Tour (Bill Kenwright Ltd). She has helped hundreds of actors prep 1:2:1 for their own projects as well as tv/film productions. Nina is a seasoned international lecturer, with previous roles including Head of Voice at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts (Musical Theatre BA), and Voice Lecturer at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (alma mater), LAMDA, Arts Ed, Mountview, and The Boston Conservatory (alma mater) to name a few.

As an experienced, versatile and multi-disciplinary artist, Nina’s interests lie in accessibility and joy in vocal discovery. She wants every artist she works with to feel empowered by the process and eventually independent in their skills. Her personal interests lie in learning/teaching vocal extreme/character work, acting and accent integration and singing with accent/character extremes.
