About the session:

As “summer body” messaging peaks, it’s time for a different narrative. Drawing on her pioneering work in size inclusivity and representation, Ruth Anna Phillips offers insights and reflections on navigating—and challenging—the industry's often unspoken, yet deeply visible, body standards.

Her work platforms the complexities around body image for all in our industry and offers important provocations needed to tackle the lack of bigger bodies on stage and screen.

The session includes a live Q&A, providing an opportunity to ask questions, share experiences, and discuss actionable strategies for advocacy and creating an inclusive space where every body is valued in the arts.

About Ruth Anna Phillips

Ruth Anna Phillips is a movement director, choreographer, and size inclusivity consultant committed to making the arts a space where all bodies are seen and supported. A leading voice in size-inclusive practice, Ruth founded www.sizeinclusivity.org and has been researching body equity in the arts since 2018. Her work is informed by lived experience, artistic collaboration, and extensive consultation across the sector.

Through workshops, resources, and training, Ruth supports individuals and organisations in embedding size inclusivity into their creative and professional practices. Her work has been featured in The Stage and picked up by national news outlets, contributing to a growing movement for change in the industry.

In addition to her consultancy work, Ruth Anna Phillips is a movement director and choreographer for both theatre and film. She leads weekly beginner-level dance classes that are open to all bodies, ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment. Ruth also teaches actor movement at some of the UK’s leading institutions, including LAMDA, Mountview, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, the University for the Creative Arts, the University of Northampton, and ArtsEd.
