This summer, in association with The National Youth Theatre (NYT), we are running a taster session for Spotlight members, with a view to holding summer schools in the coming years. This session will include a workshop with NYT associate Kane Husbands (The Pappy Show), will explore the types of training available to children and young performers. This will be followed by a panel discussion around drama school training, NYT training programmes, and how to develop a career after training. The panel will be chaired by Ellie Samuels, Spotlight’s Children and Young performers expert. Ellie has extensive experience in the industry as a performer in musical theatre, as a dance teacher at Pineapple Studios and over 14 years working at Spotlight. Ellie will be joined by a recent drama school graduate, a member of the NYT, and a lecturer from an acting course.

About Kane
Kane Husbands is a theatre director and facilitator specialising in movement and choreography. He choreographed the Team Welcome Ceremonies at the 2012 Olympics and directed for the Commonwealth Games. He has worked internationally in Europe, the Middle East and East Asia. He has worked with Sheffield Crucible Theatre, National Theatre, Old Vic New Voices, Tricycle Theatre, Midlands Arts Centre, Rose Bruford College, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and is an active Associate for the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain.

NYT is able to give free and affordable opportunities both onstage and backstage to young people aged 14-25 from all corners of the UK. Seeking out the most diverse, the most talented and the most vulnerable through an active audition programme and community engagement to give unique, life-changing experiences working with some of the UK’s leading professional directors, writers, producers, designers and stage managers.

Please note this workshop is only for those aged 25 and under. We will be in touch with you nearer the time to allocate you to a group and confirm exact timings.

Groups and Timings:

If you are 12 or under, your workshop with Kane Husbands will take place between 11 am and 1 pm. Between 11 am and 12 pm, there will be a Q+A held for the parents/guardians in one of the other rooms. After this time, you are welcome to stay and wait for the workshop to finish, or return at 1 pm.

If you are 13 and over, your workshop with Kane Husbands will take place between 2 pm and 5 pm, with a Q+A following until 6 pm.
