Free, drop-in talks on the artist Henry Moore by members of our gallery team
About this event
Discover our free, drop-in talks exploring the life and work of artist Henry Moore, led by members of our gallery team. The talks will take place in both the galleries and outdoor spaces throughout the course of the exhibition.
These events are free and open to all. All talks will begin at either 9.30 or 11 am, lasting approximately 20 – 30 minutes.
Outdoor sculpture
Discover Moore’s open-air works in our farmyard, cloister and Oudolf Field. These talks will begin at 9.30 am, allowing participants to intimately connect with these seminal works before we open our doors to the public at 10 am.
Beginning at 9.30 am on Sat 28 May, these talks will every weekend until Sun 4 Sep. Full list of dates: 30 Jul, 31 Jul, 6 Aug, 7 Aug, 13 Aug, 14 Aug, 20 Aug, 28 Aug and 4 Sep.
Maria Windsor
Focusing on Working Model for Divided Oval: Butterfly, which is on view in our Inner Cloister, Maria will introduce the sculpture, exploring Moore’s interest in natural forms.
Beginning at 11 am, these talks will run every other Fri from 3 Jun – 26 Aug.
Selina Ogilvy
Exploring the works presented within the Bourgeois Gallery, Selina will highlight the potential darkness found in Moore’s internal and external forms. Using the work’s interior and exterior physicality as a starting point, she will consider notions of touch, darkness, subconscious and memory.
Beginning at 11am, these talks will run every Wed from 10 – 31 Aug.
Jim Sheeran
Bringing Two Standing Figures to life, Jim will discuss the fascinating topics of petrification and animation in Moore’s figurative sculptures. Carved from pock-marked Travertine marble, Two Standing Figures echoes an ancient tradition of the petrification of the body, which Moore simultaneously counters through his sculptural animation of the stone and negative space between the figures.
Beginning at 11am, these talks will run on Fri 19 Aug and Fri 2 Sep.
Mary Longford
Focusing on the Upright Motives exhibited in our Threshing Barn, Mary will explore Moore's thought process in creating these usual works and their relation to the converted barn building they occupy.
Beginning at 11am, these talks will run on Saturdays until the end of the exhibition.
‘Henry Moore. Sharing Form’ is open until 4 Sep 2022.
