Event description
Successful garden design writing and broadcasting - how to communicate your ideas with your clients and a garden savvy audience.

About this Event

Our LCGD Spring Info Bursts

The ability to engage with a potential audience of clients and colleagues through the spoken and written word is as vital as the ability to draw great design images. Following on from our Autumn info bursts that explored how we present and illustrate our ideas, LCGD has invited some of the leading experts in the fields of writing and broadcasting this season to explore how ideas might be communicated through the written and spoken word. Join award-winning writers and podcasters to find out why they do it and get some great ideas for your own design business.

Monday 16 March - the spoken word

Our second evening brings together two well-known broadcasters with backgrounds in Horticulture and Garden Design. Sarah Wilson has recently won the Garden Media Guild Radio/Podcast of the Year Award for her podcast 'Roots and All' and Michael Perry is well known for his podcast but also his many appearances on television and on social media.

Sarah Wilson - Roots and All - GMGA Radio/Podcast of the Year 2019

Roots and All started when Sarah had the niggling feeling that things could be done better to introduce people to horticulture and to help make sure they were successful in their attempts at growing. Her attitude is practical and there's no room in the Roots and All garden for superfluous gadgets, 'miracle' products or anything else she finds to be a waste of time, money or resources.

The information on the site is useful for all gardeners, but the focus is definitely on wildlife and the environment. Sarah gardens from a low-impact perspective, aiming to tread lightly on any outdoor space in which she works. She also carries her vegan principles through to her work, adopting a 'no-kill' policy in the garden.

As well as running a successful garden business Sarah trained at the London College of Garden Design and has recently launched a series of podcasts on design starrting with Thomas Rainer and Kim Wilkie and sponsored by LCGD.

Michael Perry - Broadcaster and Horticulturist

These days, Michael refers to himself as the ultimate plant geek. However, it wasn't always that way. A shy teenager- ashamed of his hobby- has blossomed into a fully fledged 30 year career with plants! Michael has been responsible for introducing hundreds of new plants into the UK, most notably novelties such as the Egg and Chips plant and the Fuchsia Berry!

He regularly appears on TV: QVC across Europe, BBC and ITV, and co-hosts The Plant Based Podcast with Ellen Mary. He is also a keen social media communicator, and uses it to find out more about what gardeners want from their gardening and plants, and share his own advice with them. Well known in the industry and well connected to the consumer, he often used as a conduit for new horticultural developments. Michael is also a keen traveller for business and pleasure, and those travels often appear on social media and through other communication channels, such as e-mail newsletters.
