Spring Bird Garden Ornament Pottery Workshop

The WalrondsCullompton, England
Sunday, Apr 12, 2026 from 10 am to 1 pm GMT+1
Overview

Come and join me for a fun workshop learning how to make your own beautiful bird ornament for your garden. No experience necessary.

Spring Bird Garden Ornament Workshop

My name is Helen McCormick, and I'm a local artist and qualified art teacher. I’ve been creating objects from clay for 30 years, and I still absolutely love the process. I’m passionate about teaching and have created this workshop to share my skills, knowledge, and experience.

My workshop is designed to be a relaxed, friendly space where you can meet new people and have the opportunity to create, learn, and have fun.

During the first half of the workshop, I will teach you how to make the basic shape of your spring bird garden ornament. In the second half, you’ll learn how to apply coloured decorating slips to your work using brushes and slip trailers, as well as how to carve into the surface to create beautiful patterns and textures.

No experience is necessary.
All materials and equipment will be provided. Tea and coffee will be available throughout the session. The only thing you need to bring is an apron or to wear old clothes. (If you can trim your nails beforehand, that would be helpful, as you’ll be handling soft clay.)

After the workshop, I will carefully take your beautiful bird home and fire it in my kiln. It will be glazed with a stoneware transparent glaze, making it suitable for display in your home or garden. The price also includes a metal rod so that your bird can be displayed proudly in your garden.

Your piece will be ready to collect approximately six weeks after the workshop. I will contact you with the date and time for collection once everything has been fired.

I’m happy to store your work for up to six months, after which any uncollected pieces will be donated to charity.

There is FREE parking at the Walronds. The carpark is located at the back of the building. To access the carpark you will need to turn up Tiverton Road off the High Street, and then turn left just before the fire station onto Shortlands Lane. It is a narrow lane and easily missed. Drive a few yards up the lane and you will see the sign for the carpark on the left. Turn left and follow the drive through the gate ahead. Here is a link to Google Maps which should take you right to the carpark entrance. https://goo.gl/maps/JKfioUFi3FCSnCHJ9
