Event description

Description

Spring Melanin - The day event for Dark Skin WOC. Nurturing, healing conversation & relaxation. Taking place at the The Christian Street Community Hub specifically for hetero, cis, trans, non-binary dark skinned womxn of colour.

Spring Melanin Sessions present 'Loss & Found'. Listening to the feedback from previous sessions we decided to do a series on how to deal with loss. This is a intimate affair, there are not many spaces available and the topic is very sensitive so please bear in mind this is a safe space for darkskin woc only. Check out footage from our past events on our youtube channel Spring Melanin.

Come with an open heart & open mind. Dealing with grief is hard...there is no right or wrong way but good healthy guidance can always help on the journey.

We will start with a creative writing session by author and speaker Tene Edwards.

Followed by a talk with bereavement counsellor Melanie from Mind joining us on the panel for the Q&A - Rhyana from P.L.A.N.N.

We will close the session with Spoken word by the one and only Lams.

We will be providing drinks & refreshments as well as a self care goody bag. We also have a chill out room in case anyone needs to take a moment or break. We encourage everyone to be aware of their emotions and what they can handle. Take breaks if you need to, there will be no judgement and we have provided the space to do so.

12.30pm - Doors open

Well Being

How to deal with loss - Q&A From our feedback we had requests from over 50 guests on a session around dealing with loss. Even the founder of Spring Melanin would like some guidance with the topic of grief. We have all dealt with loss at some point in our life, be it the death of a loved one or even the loss of a friend. These experiences can change us for life, our only hope is that it can change us for the better. Which is why we found the title Loss but Found perfect for this session. Thank you to @ThatPlantBasedChef for the title! Thank you to everyone else who entered, this will hopefully be a series so more winners will be chosen.

1 - 2.30pm - Creative Writing Session With Tene Edwards: Writer, author (Walk with Wings), and self-love advocate. Tene is known for her raw and visceral poetry online. Her writing journey began in 2016 during heartbreak; as an introvert, a notepad became her therapist and she found peace in writing down her thoughts. By maintaining a brand based solely around self-love, healing and resilience, Tene has grown a large following on social media of a variety of people who support her art with celebrities such as Khloe Kardashian, Wesley Snipes, Kandi Buruss and Dascha Polanco sharing her words on Instagram.

3 - 4.30pm - Q&A with Mind: We will be given a guidance on the different stages of grieving with additional attention paid to cultural and traditional influences. This is more of a conversational flow, giving the audience the chance to explore problems they have dealt with on the journey of Loss but Found.

Rhyana from P.L.A.N.N will also be joining us on the panel for the Q&A and general wellbeing of our guests.

"P.L.A.N.N is a proactive and creative venture aimed at supporting with the process of self empowerment and personal development. We aim to help you foster, nurture and sustain life prospering strategies to better different areas of your life and build resilience towards adversity struggles"

4.30 - 5pm - Spoken Word by Lams: A spoken word poet, singer, and natural story-teller who uses rhyme, rhythm and repetition along with her background in Theatre and Performing arts to powerfully deliver carefully thought out messages, leaving audiences emotional yet ready to reflect. She explores an array of topics from religion and political injustice to love and sex.
