Event description

Join the RSPB Warden for a lovely morning of warbler spotting. At this time of year the Marsh comes alive with the sound of birdsong as migrant warblers return from Africa to breed. The Warden will spend the morning showing visitors the best places to see sedge warblers, sand martins and much more...... Take a leisurely stroll and learn to spot and identify other resident and migrant birds and wildlife living on Marazion Marsh.

This event is family friendly but will include walking over grassed and uneven surfaces so buggies might not be suitable. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. No dogs please.

Please wear appropriate clothing and sensible footwear.

Bring Binoculars if you have them.

Booking Essential through Eventbrite: but tickets are not required as we will have a list of attendees

Marazion Marsh

How to Get There

By bicycle (Sustrans cycle route)

This reserve is on Route 3 of the National Cycle Network.

By train

Penzance station. All services are now provided by First Great Western and Cross Country.

By bus

First Group buses run services from Penzance Bus Station to Marazion. On arriving in Marazion, alight at Godolphin Place opposite St Michael’s Mount car park. From the bus stop turn right (facing sea, bus stop to your back) and walk about 30 m until you reach Green Lane (which forks off to the right from the main road). Turn down Green Lane and continue walking until you reach a wide junction joining on the left. Take this left hand road and walk over the low stone bridge. The reserve entrance gate is on your right about 10 m further on.

By road

From Penzance railway station, head east along Chyandour Cliff to the Tesco roundabout. Continue east along the A30 straight over at the small Sainsbury’s roundabout until you reach the large roundabout. Take the third exit, towards Longrock, go straight across the small Morrison's roundabout and continue through Longrock village. At the mini roundabout beyond the pedestrian crossing, take the second exit to Marazion and St Michael’s Mount. Continue driving for some distance; the road will bear to the right over a railway bridge. Just after the railway bridge is a council car park immediately on the right in front of the cafe. If you are coming from St Ives or Hayle, turn onto the A30 travelling towards Penzance. Continue on the A30 until you reach the Newtown Roundabout. Take the second exit sign posted St Michael’s Mount and Marazion car parks and continue down the road (Newtown Lane) until you reach the junction at the main road. Turn left onto the main road; over the railway bridge and then right into Marazion Station car park next to the cafe (the car park is well signposted at the junction). After parking, walk back onto the main road and turn right. Continue walking along the main road, the viewing bay is about 200 m on your left. Continue another 100 m and you will find the entrance gate to the reserve.

Other ways to get to the reserve

On foot from Penzance railway station, head across the bus station area to the sea wall, access the footpath that runs alongside the wall, through the entrance to the pumping station and follow the footpath that runs between the railway tracks and the beach eastwards towards Marazion. It is worth looking over the foreshore and over Mount's Bay too as these sites offer good views of shore and seabirds. After about 3 km, the path enters the car park behind Jordan's cafe. There are toilets here. Proceed through the car park and cross to the north side of the Longrock-Marazion road. The reserve is now in front of you but to access the reserve you will have to proceed east a further 500 m to the entrance gate by bearing left at the minor road junction before the town. The entrance gate is about 50 m on your left along this road.

Follow the temporary blue arrows to the reserve entrance.
