About Springbank
At Springbank, each stage of the production process is completed on site from the malting of the barley to the final stage of bottling. At one point, Springbank was once one of the 30 distilleries in Campbeltown.
The distillery was built in 1828, on the site of the previously illicit still used by Archibald Mitchell. At the time, this made it the 14th distillery in Campbeltown. Archibald’s sons took ownership of Springbank in 1837 and later in 1872 as demand for Campbeltown was continuously increasing, the family venture into whisky trade advanced when they founded Glengyle Distillery. By 1934, due to diminishing quality malt and economic factors, Springbank and Glen Scotia became the only operating distilleries in Campbeltown. In 1973, Longrow whisky began to be distilled at Springbank providing an Islay-style single malt, then by 1997, Springbank began production on their third malt, Hazelburn.
