Sexual Health Training - accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA)

The PDA in Sexual Health Training at SCQF level 7 is an introduction to sexual health training and experiential learning in sexual health training. Both courses have been accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). These courses are designed to extend or broaden professional or vocational skills and are linked to National Occupational Standards. The units have been mapped against the National Occupational Standards for Learning and Development.

These PDAs are newly launched in 2016 and we are the first centre to be approved to offer them.

This qualification is aimed at people who need to deliver sexual health training to trainers. For example, those working, or aiming to work, in the sexual health sector with young people or people with a history of drug and alcohol misuse, or people with mental health issues or learning disabilities. It is also suitable for people who are already training in this field who wish to update or improve their knowledge and expertise and/or obtain a qualification.

This qualification is comprised of two units:

Unit 1 – Sexual Health Training: An Introduction (7th March 2016)

Unit 2 – Sexual Health Training: Experiential Learning (28th March 2016)

Price: £195 per unit, including VAT. If you choose to complete both units, you will be offered a discounted rate of £375. Please choose this option when completing the booking.

Please be aware that you must complete both units to qualify for the full Professional Development Award. We recommend that you take both courses together, and that Unit 1 is completed before Unit 2.

More information about the units:

Unit 1 – Sexual Health Training: An Introduction

This subject can bring its own difficulties given the variety of opinions and values individuals may hold in relation to those individuals who experience sexual health problems. The Unit will introduce the learners to issues in relation to learning styles, group dynamics and how to use and adapt training aids to meet the needs of diverse groups who attend training.

This Unit is suitable for learners wishing to study the Unit as a stand-alone Unit or to study it as part of a Group Award. Learners may wish to undertake this Unit and/or the Group Award as a means of seeking further progression within their workplace or as a means of progressing to higher level study.

This unit is comprised of one full day of training as well as a take-home assignment.

Unit 2 – Sexual Health Training: Experiential Learning

This Unit is designed to provide learning and opportunity for the personal development of potential trainers of Sexual Health Training. Learners will have the opportunity to design, present and evaluate their training practice. The Unit provides, through a process of experiential learning, the opportunity for learners to develop effective training skills and apply these within an appropriate learning environment.

This Unit may be suitable for learners wishing to study the Unit as a stand-alone Unit. However, it is recommended this Unit be undertaken as part of a Group Award. In this case the Unit Sexual Health Training: An Introduction should be completed first.
