Stairway to Database Deployment
Learn from one of Red Gate's DBA Team and SQL Server MVP, Grant Frichey (Product Evangelist at Red Gate) as he presents the best practices for professional SQL Server database development with tips, demos, and advice for version control, continuous integration, automated testing, and database deployment.
The sessions will also provide you with information on how to build an efficient software development and deployment process for your organization. You’ll get a chance to see the tools in action and learn how to become more efficient with the Red Gate tools you already have, so that you can put your learning into practice back in the office on Monday.
This seminar is aimed for the intermediate database developer and DBA. If you develop software using databases, struggle with deployment problems and failures, manage a development team, or just want to learn more about how Red Gate has learned to deploy software often and very successfully in our own business, this is a must attend seminar.

12:30PM – 12:45PM ~ Attendee arrival & networking ~
12:45PM – An efficient development process requires that all of your team members coordinate their efforts. This session shows how a version control system and standard development practices help improve the speed and quality of your development process.1PM - Session 1 –
~ Break and networking ~
Session 2 – Automated build and test processes such as continuous integration are essential to achieve the short feedback cycles that an agile development lifecycle requires. This session will demonstrate how checking in a database change with SQL Source Control can tell you whether your database business logic will remain functional and whether the upgrade process will succeed. You'll also see how a successful build will leave you with a database package that can be used in your deployment process.
~ Break and networking ~
Session 3 – The easiest part of any deployment is running the deployment script on production. But what have you done to prepare that script for production? Was the script tested? Is the script tightly coupled with the application code? The difference between a successful deployment and a failed or problematic deployment is all the preparation work you've done to ensure that you're deploying the right script, the right way to your production environment. This session will explore best practices that you can implement to ensure that your deployments are as successful as they can be.
~ 4.30PM – 5.30PM ~ Happy Hour & continued discussions in the venue bar (Beers and sodas on Red Gate) ~
