Continuous Integration for SQL Server Stairway – Build and Test
The Continuous Integration for SQL Server Stairway is a series of full-day workshops designed to help you setup CI for your database.
This event focusses on build and test, and will show you how to link your database source control repository to your build system and add unit tests. Information on the morning and afternoon workshops are below.
The workshops are led by an expert trainer and include breakfast, a 3-course lunch, and refreshments throughout the day.
Workshop 1: Link source control to a build system
The morning workshop will show you how to link your database source control repository to your build system, this is one of the first steps in rolling out continuous integration. Automating your builds gives you fast feedback on changes as you check them in to source control – within minutes you’ll know whether your database will remain functional and whether the upgrade process will succeed.
During workshop 1 you’ll learn how to:
Workshop 2: Integration testing
The afternoon workshop will build on the outcomes of the first workshop and show you how to add unit tests into your CI setup using the tSQLt framework, an open source framework designed specifically for running SQL Server tests. By adding tests you can subject database changes to greater scrutiny, and catch potential issues much sooner.
During workshop 2 you’ll learn how to:
You’ll be provided with a machine to work on preinstalled with all the software you need to compete the workshop. We’ll use Subversion and TeamCity for the main exercises and explain how this setup can be repeated with any combination of source control and build systems e.g. SVN, TFS, GIT, Mercurial, TeamCity, Jenkins, Hudson, Bamboo etc.
We make the world's most trusted tools for shipping changes to your database.
Our tools are technically challenging to make, but really intuitive to use – a philosophy we call ingeniously simple.
