Continuous Integration for SQL Server Stairway – Test and Deploy
The Continuous Integration for SQL Server Stairway is a series of full-day workshops designed to help you setup CI for your database.
This event focusses on test and deploy, and will show you how to add unit tests into your CI setup and automate deployments to further testing environments. Information on the morning and afternoon workshops are below.
The workshops are led by an expert trainer and include breakfast, a 3-course lunch, and refreshments throughout the day.
Workshop 2: Integration testing
The morning workshop will show you how to add unit tests into your CI setup using the tSQLt framework, an open source framework designed specifically for running SQL Server tests. By adding tests you can subject database changes to greater scrutiny, and catch potential issues sooner.
During workshop 2 you'll learn how to:
Workshop 3: Link a build system to a release management system
The afternoon workshop will show you how to complete your CI setup. The first 2 workshops – workshop1: link source control to a build system and workshop 2: integration testing – form the basis of a solid change management process where every database change gets tested automatically by your CI server and a NuGet package is generated for further tests and deployment. A release management system enables you to manage the deployment of NuGet packages with ease. At a glance you'll know which versions of your database are deployed to which environments.
During workshop 3 you’ll learn how to:
You'll be provided with a machine to work on, preinstalled with all the software you need to complete the workshop. We'll use Subversion, TeamCity and Octopus Deploy for the main exercises and explain how this setup can be repeated with any combination of source control, build, and release systems e.g. SVN, TFS, GIT, Mercurial, TeamCity, Jenkins, Hudson, Bamboo, Octopus Deploy etc.
