18:15 - Stuart Moore: Decoupling systems with Service Bus
With more and more systems expecting to be available to customers 24/7/365 it can be hard to find the time to perform database admin tasks that require sole access or downtime.
And more and more systems cross the Cloud/Premises security boundaries, how can you allow access without opening yourself up to too many problems.
How many data flows do you have between systems? Are you still passing around batch data, and the business wants it sending faster so you need to be able to send individual updates to disparate systems.
This is where a Queue based architecture can help. Using Microsoft Service Bus we can pass messages between systems with the guarantee that once they've been queued they will be held until delivered. Thus decoupling your database from the application, so you can have that downtime you want. All connections are brokered from the application end using https so you don't have to play with firewalls or allow direct DB access.
