Moves Like Lewis
When you buy a car, you need to have a basic understanding of how it works – how to get it to go forward, stop, play Taylor Swift from your iPod, etc), but to really get the best performance from it, you have to understand the systems and technology that’s gone in to your investment.
With SQL Server, you get a pure-tuned F1 car that looks like a Fiat Multipla – Heavy lifting and shifting, school runs, and getting the reports out on time done really well, but also capable of scarily fast transactions and analytics.
In this session, we’ll take a closer look at what’s inside SQL2014’s Extreme Transaction Processing engines (xVelocity / Vertipaq), talk about the concepts and technology involved, and see what changes have been made for 2016.
If you like getting your hands dirty, or just really *need* to know how something works before you can use it, then come along – it’ll be a blast.

The role of Azure SQL Database in your data strategy
The Azure SQL Database service now provides the same core functionality as the SQL Server 2016 database engine yet is arguably easier to deploy, manage and scale. However, it was never designed to meet every database server requirement so solutions need to play to its strengths rather than suffer from its limitations.
This session reviews the Azure SQL Database’s strengths and limitations, and shows how organisations are making it part of their data strategy. It considers other Platform as a Service format services within Microsoft Azure that are commonly used with it to create integrated solutions. The session also gives examples of workarounds for some of the features not provided by the Azure SQL Database service.
