SQLNorthEast (NEWCASTLE) SQL SERVER USER GROUP

Network, learn, ask a question, meet other folk, get fed - these are all things that happen at user group events. These events are a really great opportunity to socialise in an informal learning experience - if you want your own exposure then come and do a 1 - 5 minute nugget in front of your peers or use it as an opportunity to ask for help with any issues that may arise at work.

Remember to tell your friends and colleagues; make sure you register as soon as you can.

Introduction to the Modern Data Warehouse

Simon Whiteley and Terry McCann

Technology changes quickly – patterns and approaches less so. As people move towards the cloud, there are clear benefits of adopting a distributed cloud architecture employing a range of disparate tools. As this evolves, the patterns that were designed for single box solutions should be challenged.

This double session will outline the set of tools and integration points that can underpin the modern cloud approach, inspired by a big data pattern known as the Lambda Architecture.

Do you need to build out real-time reporting systems? Or crunch through petabytes of data? Or perhaps you are adopting a cloud architecture and simply want to make sure it can handle anything the future throws at it? Whether you’re dealing with Gigabytes or Petabyes, Daily Loads or Data Streaming – This session is for you.

We will follow the movement of data through batch and speed layers via Azure Data Lake Store & Analytics, SQL Datawarehouse and Streaming Analytics, orchestrate everything using Logic Apps and Azure Functions, before looking briefly at Azure Analysis Services with PowerBI. This is a largely theory-based session to prime you for the future, but we'll throw a few demos in for good measure

Speaker Bios:

Simon Whiteley - As Chief Cloud Architect for Adatis Consulting Ltd, Simon's primary drive is to constantly evaluate the shifting tech landscape and be defining the next generation of BI & Analytics solutions. Originally from a Kimballite BI background, Simon now spends his time working with cutting-edge cloud products, merging traditional thinking and big data architectures to find the "new way". Leader for the SQL Surrey PASS Chapter, frequent speaker on all things Azure and Analytics, general geek and code nerd!

Terry McCann - Data Science & Advanced Analytics Consultant for Adatis Consulting Limited a Microsoft Data & Analytics consultancy in the UK. Data Science Master's student, organiser of the Data Science Exeter user group, frequent speaker at SQL Saturdays in the UK and Europe. Previous co-organiser of SQL Saturday Exeter.

See you on August 22nd !
