Description

SQLNorthEast (NEWCASTLE) SQL SERVER USER GROUP

Network, learn, ask a question, meet other folk, get fed - these are all things that happen at user group events. These events are a really great opportunity to socialise in an informal learning experience - if you want your own exposure then come and do a 1 - 5 minute nugget in front of your peers or use it as an opportunity to ask for help with any issues that may arise at work.

Remember to tell your friends and colleagues; make sure you register as soon as you can.

5.45pm – 6:15pm Registration and networking
6:20pm - 7:20pm – Getting "dirty" with the Data Science Professional Project - Malcolm Smith
7:20 - 7:40pm - Break
7:40pm – 8:20pm - Is Power BI a replacement of a Data Warehouse? - Emil Glownia

8:20pm - Feedback and Close

Finally: Drinks on the Quayside :)

We are delighted that one of our own Usergroup members will be doing his first (of many we hope) speaking event. Malcolm will be talking us through his experiences with his recently completed Data Science certification, focusing on the graded Machine Learning experiment project.

We have been contacted at late notice by a fantastic speaker Emil who will be showing us how to become a BI Developer. This will replace my planned session on Containers.

Please find the abstracts for Malcolm and Chris’s sessions on May 23rd below:

Getting “dirty” with the Data Science Professional Project

Malcolm Smith

In this session he will provide an overview of his Machine Learning experiment from the final module of the Data Science Professional Project which forms part of a Cortana Intelligence Competition.

Starting with a dirty dataset, the aim is to clean and process the data within an experiment to predict the outcome – easy! Or is it? We will walk through some of the skills (and pain points) covered as part of the course and how these can be transferred into producing a fully trained and scored, Machine Learning experiment giving you confidence to have a go knowing what improvements work with your data, so you can be boss of your Data Mining or Machine Learning projects.

About Malcolm:

Malcolm started as a BI test in 2002 and after finding too many bugs progressed into development on DB2 using Business Objects. He swiftly moved to the dark side, providing Developer support, VB & C# with MS SQL 2000+ and his current role as a BI/SQL Developer has even allowed him to pick up some MySQL

Malcolm is active in the SQL Community and is regularly involved in helping at SQLbits, SQLRelay and SQLSaturday’s around the UK.

Come and see his first presentation and who knows you may even see him at SQL Relay or SQL Bits in the future.
