OPEN TO ALL SQUADS, YORK - VENUE TBC

This workshop will introduce you to the story process within soap. You will gain a unique insight into the way in which continuing drama hires Storyliners. Storyliners are responsible for generating ideas and structuring the story into each episode. We will also talk about what is expected from Storyliners at Story Conference where producers, writers and commissioners all meet to discuss future blocks of content. This session will focus on Emmerdale, so please watch two weeks of the show beforehand. The workshop will be modelled on our experience of ITV’s Assessment Centre which is part of the hiring process. During the day, you will pitch, develop and structure storylines, both independently and in groups.

We will send you examples of pitches and story documents in preparation for the workshop. Please send us a pitch for a storyline (no longer than one page) by Friday 22nd October. Take the leap and come spend the day with us in the Yorkshire village of Emmerdale!

CHARLOTTE CARRICK

Charlotte currently works for Emmerdale as an Editorial Coordinator. She is responsible for assisting the Pre-Production team with the accurate and successful delivery of scripts.

In the past she has worked for Chapel FM Arts Organisation and The Performance Ensemble Theatre Company. She has also been involved in many co-collaborative projects & performances with various northern institutions, such as Yorkshire Dance, Canal Connections and Leeds College of Music.

Charlotte's writing has been performed at The Everyman Theatre, Theatre 53two, The Cockpit Theatre, Ye Old Rose & Crown and Leeds Playhouse. She is currently working on developing her first feature film: a coming of age story about a girl named Bow, who’s sense of loss guides her to a sweary, stitchy knitting group. PEARL ANDREWS HORRIGAN

Pearl is currently studying for an MA in Drama Writing at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and working as a Development Assistant at Rianne Pictures.

In 2021, Pearl was invited to attend an EastEnders Long Term Story Conference, where she pitched storylines for some of the show's most iconic characters.

In 2018, Pearl won the Under 25s Playwriting Award at The Customs House, South Shields, which funded R&D and a rehearsed reading of her hour long play ‘Tender: Loving Care’ at the theatre. This play – about funding for women's refuges – was then shortlisted for The Pleasance Reading Week 2019 and selected for Aktualise Theatre's Script Club.
