Come to the glitzy* Folkestone premiere of stop-motion sci-fi action thriller Squirrel Island! 21 minutes of animated fun on the big screen followed by a Q&A with the film's director, animator/Folkestone resident Astrid Goldsmith.
A puppet stop-motion short film following Dot, a lone renegade grey squirrel, who finds herself trapped on a hostile and mysterious red squirrel island. Teaming up with a reluctant acorn, together they uncover a horrifying secret red squirrel plot. Can Dot and Mr Acorn survive Squirrel Island?
Seven years in the making, Squirrel Island was shot on 16mm in Astrid's garage in Folkestone, using a 1969 Bolex film camera. Inspired by the issues surrounding invasive species and the controversial policies implemented to protect native wildlife in Britain, Squirrel Island is a sideways look at the choices we make between good and bad animals.
PLEASE NOTE: Squirrel Island has been awarded a 12A certificate, so children under 12 will need to be accompanied by an adult. The film contains mild peril and some moments of violence, and some scenes may be upsetting for very young viewers.
