About this event

Charity & Causes • Environment

The red squirrel is the UK’s only native squirrel species and was once a common sight across all of mainland Britain but now is mainly found in Scotland.

Today we have 2 events available:

Event 1 - 07:00am - 08:30am: Join the Countryside Rangers on an early morning walk to try and find signs of the red squirrel population in Hazlehead. Perhaps you’ll be lucky enough to see one of the squirrels!

*08:30am - 09:30am: Breakfast at the Countryside Rangers' office. There will be tea, coffee, fresh fruit, pastries and cereal.

Event 2 - 09:30am - 12:00pm: Join us on a practical conservation event to promote regeneration of the red squirrel’s favourite food - Scots pine trees. Come and help the Rangers get rid of invasive spruce saplings and increase the chance of seeing red squirrels in this lovely part of the city.

*If you attend both squirrel events on October 8th we invite you to have a simple breakfast in the Countryside Ranger base on Groats Road.

These events are suited to adults and older children. Please wear sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for the weather. If attending the Squirrel Woodland Management event please bring a packed lunch and your own thick pair of gardening gloves.

Places for each event will become bookable 2 weeks in advance. Please note a space must be booked for all attendees including parents. Although our events are free to attend, donations to support the Countryside Ranger Service are much appreciated.
