Met Office Emergency Responders’ Course
This course has been designed to help you, as Emergency Responders, to better understand the weather, the role of the Met Office and what services we provide. Completion of the course will lead to an increased knowledge and understanding which can be applied when responding to severe weather or a weather related incident.
The full course consists of 5 modules which make up a full day’s course.
The modules are:-
Basic Meteorology – gives an overview of the meteorological features that affect the UK weather including global circulations, the jet stream, air masses and frontal systems.
NSWWS – looks at the National Severe Weather Warning Service, how the Met Office decides to issue them and how you can use them to help decision making.
UK Weather – gain an understanding of the different types of weather that affects the UK, help you to understand the potential impacts and learn from past events.
Role of the Met Office Advisor –understand the role of the Advisor in severe weather events and non-weather incidents, and give you an understanding of how they can assist you in decision making.
Met Office Products & Services – gain an understanding of the products and services provided by the Met Office to help you ahead of and during an incident including Hazard Manager, CHEMET, WOW and App.
