Description

Obtaining your research data is a long and difficult path. Therefore, being able to properly analyse these data is crucial to understand your results. If you have thought, at some point, learning the basic programming skills to speed your data analyses, this is the opportunity you have been looking for!

WORKSHOP CONTENTS

- Basic Linux skills for beginners: the terminal is your friend!
- R and Python for data analysis. Learn the most powerful tools at your fingertips. Choose your preferred programming language during the practical session!
- Join other participants so you can solve as a team a series of exercises in the programming language you all prefer.
- Bring your own challenges: our tutors will help you analyse your research data.

AFTER THE WORKSHOP YOU WILL BE ABLE TO...

- Use the basic commands in the terminal.
- Use basic R and Python.
- Analyse your data using the language you choose in the practical session of this workshop, R or Python.

REQUIREMENTS TO ATTEND THE WORKSHOP

- Basic/beginner level: This event is thought for those people who are motivated to get started into the programming world. Therefore, you should not attend this workshop if you have an intermediate/advanced programming level because you will not learn anything new. There are limited palces, so we would like that all of those people without programming experience can have the chance to get themselves started.

- Your own laptop: We will use R and Python during the workshop, so we will need you have the corresponding software installed before the workshop. After the registration, we will help you to set up your laptop for the workshop. Note that this course is not limited to Linux users, as this software is available also for Windows and Mac! Either if you use Ubuntu, Mac OS X, or Windows, and you are keen to start your path in programming, this course is for you!

WHERE AND WHEN

The course will take place on the Saturday 28th of April, from 10h to 17h, at the IOE (Institute of Education), 20 Bedford Way, Room 675, University College London, WC1H 0AL, near the Russell Sq. tube station and also very close to Euston Sq. and Godge St. stations. The course will include coffee breaks and lunch!
