Event Information
About this Event
The CPD is seen as essential by RIAS so much so that the talk/ workshop on sustainability and on the RIAS Strategy are delivered to all the Chapters.
Project: The Barracks
We have added a presentation on the refurbishment of The Barracks (next door to the Engine Shed, Stirling) by Project Architects Michael Mullen and Gordon Campbell from jmarchitects. This should be an interesting presentation. Reusing existing buildings is a good illustration of sustainability.
Sustainability - Climate Change
The first talk on sustainability is led by three specialists who are leaders in promoting and applying a sustainable approach in architecture:
- Professor Sandy Halliday, BSc (Hons) MPhil CEng MCIBSE FRSA Principal, Gaia Research, Gaia Group.
- Chris Stewart (Director - Collective Architecture and member of the Scottish Ecological Design Association)
- Richard Atkins PhD, RIBA, FRIAS, FRSA
All are well known authors of articles and books on sustainability including the RIBA sustainable plan of work .
Their talk will centre on Sustainability - what why how, how as Architect we can promote and apply sustainable principles and guide our Clients, etc.
The New RIAS Strategy (2019)
The new RIAS Strategy which was launched at the RIAS AGM in September 2019 is a completely new concept that Karen Stevenson, Acting Secretary of RIAS will explain. Members can use the strategy and they are invited to influence it. Chapters can also use it to improve the visibility of our profession. It is a live documents that will constantly adjust its priorities to what matters to our members. A new Strategy Committee will replace the current Strategy Working Group that I have attended on your behalf since spring 2018. All RIAS members should be aware of this new Strategy and understand how it works.
