SSGD in association with LYCA Radio, supported by Rajendra Pala & his band Nirmala Arts from Mumbai presents, a Garba masterclass with the Garba Gurus, Jigar Soni and Suhrad Soni of Soni’s School of Garba Dance.
The World’s Biggest Garba School, with a current reach in 17 countries and 57 cities worldwide.
With over 26 years of experience gained as an artists, teachers, producers and choreographers, the Soni brothers incorporate their knowledge to build on the core foundations of the Indian folk dance, Garba.
This 2 hour Garba masterclass is an opportunity for individuals to come and learn from the very best in Indian folk dance. The session will explore movements and technique from SSGD’s core dance syllabus and grades. No previous dancing skills or knowledge of Garba dance is necessary.

What is Garba?
Garba is a traditional form of Indian folk dance, consisting of claps, clicks, bends and spins. It is a dance of celebration, usually performed during the Hindu festival of Navratri, and amongst other joyous occasions.

About the Sonis School of Garba Dance:
Jigar Soni and Suhrad Soni started teaching authentic Garba in 1998, with the vision of preserving and promoting the traditional form of this beautiful folk dance from Gujarat.
Being hugely popular in India over the last 26 years, SSGD have recently become more of a global platform as the largest Authentic Garba School, having a presence within 17 countries and 57 cities worldwide, with over 2000 students learning from SSGD every year.
They have been awarded by numerous organisations including the UK government, where Jigar and Suhrad Soni received an award from the House of Commons for their significant contribution towards promoting Indian culture globally.
The Soni brothers are the producers and choreographers of Falguni Pathak’s Garba anthem ‘Radha Ne Shyam,’ and choreographers of Falguni Pathak’s latest anthem ‘Vasaladi.’
Jigar Soni and Suhrad Soni are members of the International Dance Council, affiliated to UNESCO, which has enabled them to not only produce a certified syllabus for their Garba School but also present both Garba dance and, seminars at industry and private organisations.

Frequently asked questions
There is limited venue parking opposite the venue in a designated car parking area. Alternatively, there an NCP car park is located in Lee Circle, across the road from the venue.
Dress code for the workshop is traditional Indian attire. For male dancers this is a kurta and bottoms, and for female dancers a kurti top and bottoms or chaniyo. The clothing must allow for ease of movement.
