Social Science Research Laboratory Workshop Series: Creative and Participatory Methods
Welcome to our workshop series where we dive into innovative ways to engage and collaborate! Join us for a hands-on experience packed with creative and participatory methods that will bring your projects to life. Meet like-minded individuals, share ideas, and get ready for some fun and inspiration.
The programme will include:
- Expressive writing with Dr Nancy Taber (Brock University, Canada) - Explore through writing how individual experiences intersect with military organizations to support transformative learning, critical understandings, and culture change.
- Voicework with Mary Jane Wells - Use breath work and sung sound to learn about empowerment through voice.
- Participatory film-making with Dr Hannah West, Dr Ilda Cuko and Dr Lucy Robinson (CEEUPS) - Get hands on with film equipment by forming recording teams and learning how to record an interview.
- Song writing with MIRI - Learn about mobilising songwriting for campaigning.
For those interested the workshops can build on each other so what you write in the first session can be worked on as voicework and then recorded in the participatory film making. Sessions will include reflection on how each of the methods can be used/have been used in recent research by the Centre. There will be an opportunity for anyone attending to showcase their use of creative methods by bringing a visual exhibit/poster to display.
