Join us for a hands-on conservation day at the SSSI Relic Sand Dunes at Cleethorpes Boating Lake where you’ll help with the management of our Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Volunteers will hand-remove grass cuttings using rakes and other tools.
Why does this matter? These old or relic dunes may date back to the 14th century and mark the original coastline prior to the building of the sea wall in the 20th century. Today, they form part of the Humber Estuary Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Removing cuttings reduces soil nutrients to ensure the right conditions for our coastal wildflowers to flourish such as rare orchids, bird’s-foot trefoil and restharrow.
This is a chance to make a real difference for local biodiversity and our natural heritage!
