Event description

Description

During this two hour workshop I will show you how to turn a vintage tin into a little piece of art featuring a printed photograph of local landmark, St Mary's Lighthouse. I will guide you through laying out, glueing and sewing, small scale collages, using vintage ephemera from my stash, to display inside of the tin. Using an image of the lighthouse, pre-printed onto cotton, you can also work into or add some detail to the photograph of the lighthouse, using some basic hand embroidery stitches. The photograph we will be working from dates from the late 1950's/early 1960's.

All materials are provided, including the tins, which I've been sourcing from local traders at Tynemouth Market. I will bring a selection to the workshop which are roughly the size of tobacco tins, to give an idea of scale. I will also bring my boxes of vintage paper goods, linens, trims and buttons to rummage through! Although some knowledge of basic sewing is useful, it is not essential and beginners are very welcome!
