How many humans can I bring?

There is no limit to the number of humans in your party!

Question 2

How many dogs can I bring?

Accepted Answer

We have a maximum limit of 2 dogs per person.

Question 3

Is this a family friendly event?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! All ages are welcome.

Question 4

Does everyone have to walk?

Accepted Answer

No.  If any of your party want to just walk a part of the course, or simply stay in the hall, that is no problem.  There will be plenty of tea and cake to keep them occupied until everyone else gets back.

Question 5

Does it matter how quickly we walk?

Accepted Answer

No, this is a fun, relaxed event, not a timed competition!  We won't leave until we've presented you with your goody bag, so don't worry about how long you take!

Question 6

What's the terrain like?

Accepted Answer

The walk has a mixture of moderate terrains including: grass, tarmac and a hard, gravel track.  The grass can be avoided by walking along a quiet road instead, if that is required.   There may be some puddles to dodge if it has been wet -  so make sure you wear appropriate footwear.

Is the route wheelchair friendly?

We would advise getting to the halfway point at the Discovery Centre and then returning on the same route. The Nook Lane return route is on a hard gravel track which could prove a challenge and is likely to involve negotiating large puddles and very uneven ground.

Are there any toilets?

Accepted Answer

Toilets are available at Winchelsea Beach Community Association at the start and end of the course, and at the 10km half-way point at Rye Harbour Discovery Centre.  (The toilets shown on some maps at the end of Dogs Hill Road are closed).

Question 9

Do  I have to keep my dog on a lead?

Accepted Answer

Yes.  We ask that all dogs are kept on leads, even if they are well behaved. This is important to ensure the safety of all participants, both two and four-legged!

Why doesn't gift aid count towards the £40 total to be included in the raffle?

Accepted Answer

We love Gift Aid!  Please ask all sponsors if they can add Gift Aid.  However, lots of donations may not qualify for this.  Therefore, it seemed unfair on those who collect sponsors who cannot contribute on the Gift Aid.

Question 11

Is 10km too far for my dog to walk?

Accepted Answer

We cannot give expert advice on this and, of course, every dog is unique. Most healthy dogs will be fine with this distance but you might feel the 5km course is more suitable for your dog.  Or, you might decide to simply visit the market.

Question 12

Can I still attend if I'm not walking?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely!  There will be stalls to visit with a variety of doggy-related businesses, as well as the chance to get a live caricature of you and your pet (or just your pet if you prefer!).  Throw in some tea and cakes and there's plenty of reasons to turn up even if you're not doing the walk!

Are dogs allowed in the Rye Harbour Discovery Centre?

Will you have dog mess bags?

Accepted Answer

We will have some ready, in case you've forgotten yours, but please try to bring your own.  It is essential that all dog mess is cleared up and put in the designated bins which are available near the Rye Harbour Discovery Centre.

What is the money being raised for?

Accepted Answer

It costs £14,400 every day to provide our Hospice services which support the community to live well with dying, death and loss.  You can find out more about these services, as well as donating to legacies, events, the Hospice Lottery and more on our website  www.stmichaelshospice.com

When will the raffle draws be made?

Accepted Answer

There will be 2 raffles! There will be raffle tickets sold on the day for various doggy prizes. Winners will be drawn at the end of the event. The raffle for raising £40 of sponsorship will be drawn on April 26, to give time for sponsorship to come in after the event.
