About this Event

St Multose, possibly the most fascinating building in Kinsale, is one of only a handful of medieval churches in Ireland still in continuous use since its construction. This fact has ensured that we can see evidence from, at least, the last 800 years of the town. Nowhere else can we see one of the buildings of the early Norman town. In an hour I will go from the twelfth century until 1918 and explain the major aspects of the history of the church in the town, with reference to surviving remains in the church. Religion, money, wars, trades, kings, shipwrecks, tomb fashion, the rise and fall of families, graffiti, the old Japanese National Anthem, and more – all this will be talked about as we walk around the church. My talk will include my most recent findings from archival research.
