About this event
Dear Parent/Carer
As a parent I know the importance of choosing the right school for your child's secondary education. In order to help you make this choice, you are warmly invited to our Open Evening on Wednesday, 1st October at 6pm. The evening will consist of a presentation by myself, the Head Boy and Head Girl, and Year 7 students, as well as the opportunity to visit and spend time in each department.
Our aim is simple, we want to be the best school in the country. This means that we can ‘hand on heart’ say that our students get a better deal than if they attended another school.
In September 2024, we opened our new Sixth Form and welcomed our first cohort of Year 11 students. Any student who joins us would be starting a 7-year journey in which they will be supported and challenged to achieve their God-given potential.
Academic outcomes at St Oscar Romero are outstanding. This year, 80% of students achieved a Grade 4 (equivalent to a C grade) in English and Maths. We also saw a record number of students achieve straight Grades 7, 8 and 9, equivalent A*/A grades, in all subjects. The Progress 8 score for the school was +0.84 in 2024, which placed the school in the top 2% of schools nationally.
In April 2025, we were judged by Ofsted as ‘Outstanding’ in every category. The report was overwhelmingly positive about the school and stated “This is a highly aspirational school where pupils truly thrive”. Our last Diocesan Section 48 inspection took place in 2019, which judged the school as ‘Outstanding’ in every category. Both Outstanding judgements were a first for the school and a proud moment in the school’s history.
As a Catholic School, St Oscar Romero’s is founded on Gospel values. We provide a nurturing environment of love, respect and discipline, where every individual is highly valued and our care and concern for others is central to our mission. We expect our students to work hard, behave well, dress smartly and pursue excellence in all that they do inside and outside of the classroom. Our culture is one of high expectations in all that we do.
Applications for school places must be made to the Local Authority by the deadline of 31st October 2025. Applications received after this date are treated as late by WSCC and dealt with after the initial places are allocated.
We do not have a catchment area, all applications are ranked according to the category your child comes under in our Admissions Policy (see school website) and then distance within each category to the school.
In order to ensure your child is placed in the correct category please complete and return a Supplementary Information Form (SIF) directly to us. If your child is Baptised (Catholic, C of E etc.) or is member of a church please also include a copy of the certificate or letter from priest or pastor etc.
Our Morning Tours take place on the 3rd, 7th, 8th, 9th and 14th of October, all at 9.15am prompt. Places are limited and must be booked via Eventbrite https://bit.ly/StRomerosTours2025
Please note we can only offer disabled parking, therefore, if you are driving, please park safely in the surrounding area and stride.
If you are unable to make any of the above dates, please email Mrs Godfrey kgodfrey@stromeros.co.uk and we will see if it is possible to make an appointment for you.
I look forward to you joining us at one of the above events
Yours sincerely
Mr P Byrne
