Event description

There is already training available to support staff in their student support / pastoral role. This includes training on personal tutoring, as well as sessions on mental health such as Mental Health First Aid. We encourage you to participate in these training opportunities – whether you are new to supporting students or whether you are experienced. Details about staff training is here:

However, we recognise that in addition to formal training, staff might find it useful to meet with colleagues in similar roles, and with staff from student wellbeing services, to discuss their practice and de-brief about recent issues or incidents.

Senior staff from the Advice and Counselling Service and the Disability and Dyslexia Service are available to facilitate 90-minute discussion and support groups for staff. The aim is to:

 Provide a supportive and informed space for staff to share their experiences of supporting students

 Share, and further develop, student support practice

 De-brief situations that are causing concern and discuss dilemmas

The discussion groups are participative and although staff from student wellbeing services will facilitate and contribute to the discussion, the main content of the session will be case studies and dilemmas brought by attendees
