Training for school staff is very important for children and young people who stammer. Learning about the complexity of stammering allows staff to understand the seen and hidden parts of a stammer, and provide the best support for the child across all situations. Adults who understand and accept stammering as a different way of speaking can make a huge difference to the life and schooling experiences of a young person who stammers, and can prevent or limit the development of challenging emotions such as anxiety.
The session will cover the following areas:
· What is stammering? Facts and features
· How stammering develops in children
· How to support children and young people who stammer in educational settings
· Helpful resources to use in educational settings
There will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions and share your experiences with other education staff.
We welcome all staff working in schools at this workshop, including non-teaching staff.
Free to Sheffield schools and settings.
