Hathersage - Stanage Edge - Hathersage (approx 9 miles loop)
Welcome to Freshwalks, bringing together North West business folk in the majestic setting of the Peak District. This time, for a summer special, we are taking on a classic circular route, starting the day down in Hathersage, hiking up to Stanage Edge before returning to a privately booked, heated outdoor pool in Hathersage.
Our plan is to reinvigorate both body and soul, allowing participants to make new contacts, to share personal and business challenges and gain some fresh perspective. All within a magnificent setting that will allow clear thinking and new ideas to flourish.
Stanage Edge is one of the most popular outdoor locations in England, especially with rock climbers. This walk takes us from Hathersage on country tracks towards Stanage Edge. Then along the top, past the adrenaline junkies before returning back to Hathersage along countryside lanes. On a clear day, some of the views from the edge are amongst the best in the Peak District.
We intend to leave Hathersage train station at 11:45, we'll be in Carluccio's (upstairs Manchester Piccadilly train station) having brunch from 10:00 onwards before catching the 10:49 train to Hathersage. Please feel free to join us at either location. But DO be on time!
Don't forget, you will need to bring a good supply of water and your own packed (late) lunch.
We expect to be back in Hathersage for about 17:30 where we will shower before taking a dip in the pool. Afterwards, before the return train journey, there will be time for a refreshing pint and some food at the Little John Hotel which is a lovely pub not far from the pool and the train station.
Hope you can join us. Michael.
What should I wear?
You will need to wear proper walking boots, bring along some waterproofs and a couple of layers to cater for unpredictable weather conditions. A spare pair of socks is also quite useful. And of course, on this occasion a swimming costume and towel. Full information will follow before the event.
I'm a little unfit, should I come along?
This will be one of our easier walks (at only 9 miles) but you do need to have some level of fitness. If you haven't done any form of exercise recently, this might be an initial step too far and we'd recommend at least some distance (5 miles plus) walking on the level as preparation. Our schedule does allow for a number of 'breather' stops as well as a break for sandwiches. So plenty of time for catching up and to keep the group together.
