As a research professional, it is not just enough that we conduct good quality scholarship and publish it. We also need to promote our work and ourselves to maximum effect. Doing so increases the likelihood of a readership, citations, socio-economic impact, promotions, tenure, fame, fortune, fragrance and being seen as attractive by potential mates. (Warning – some of these are not guaranteed…)

Self-promotion is perhaps not easy for many of us in the research community. It is however, a game that can be learned and so this energetic, pragmatic and focused session will explore simple techniques to help you to acceptably promote yourself and so build your personal impact and reputation.

Presenter: Dr. Steve Hutchinson: After working as an academic zoologist, Dr. Steve Hutchinson moved to the field of training and development and for the last fifteen years has been at the forefront of academic development practice – having led programmes and units at the Universities of York and Leeds.After setting up his own consulting company he has designed and delivered acclaimed programmes for a huge range of institutions internationally, and his third book – Enhancing the Doctoral Experience – is widely (in academia) acclaimed. Book four was published in 2017 (not aimed at you…) and five and six are underway. In a glaring display of impact hypocrisy, he doesn’t do Social Media. The world still turns.
