Event description

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is an infamous annual arts festival, and a important date for comedians across the UK. Comedians travel there every year to showcase their talent, in the hope of breaking through and gaining industry recognition. With preview season starting soon, Urmston Comedy Club have bagged some of the best shows set to attract thousands of Fringe festival goers this year.

Throughout March to July, Urmston Comedy Club are hosting several preview nights, at The Roebuck Pub in Urmston. Each preview night will include two full shows each evening, for only £10 a ticket.

The first night of previews is on the 31st March, and tickets are available to buy via their social media pages or at The Roebuck Pub.

Mark Grimshaw - Corporate Distopia.

Opening this show is Mark Grimshaw. Mark is an Autistic PowerPoint using comedian who takes a look at the darker side of a major aspect of modern life - the internet.

Mark’s show is set to explain “why everyone that wants your money is a D***”. Throughout this brand new hour of stand-up comedy, Mark Grimshaw will be taking on major companies - such as Pringles, The Sun, Toys R Us (RIP) and Northern Rail - as well as some smaller, more obscure companies - such as The Walt Disney Company. It's a show suitable for all of the family (as long as they're over the age of 18, enjoy comedy and, crucially, are not a lawyer for The Walt Disney Company).

Mark Grimshaw has won the Great Yorkshire Fringe New Comedian of The Year in 2018. He’s also been the runner-up in the Beat The Frog World Series 2016. If you're looking to see an act that has been on television, he also appeared on BBC Children in Need 2007 (North West only regional programming) holding a giant cheque that wasn't his.

Jonny Pelham - Off Limits.

The second show Urmston Comedy Club are hosting on 31st March is by the critically acclaimed Jonny Pelham. Jonny began comedy at University and while he was there he achieved runner-up in both the coveted So You Think You’re Funny competition and The Chortle Student Comedy Awards. Since graduating university Jonny has continued to impress and was a finalist and judges choice in the BBC Radio New Comedy Awards, as well as being nominated for Chortle Best Newcomer in 2014.

2016 saw Jonny make the exciting step over to the small screen on Russell Howards Stand Up Central for Comedy Central followed by a support slot on Live At The BBC in 2018. Jonny has also appeared in the Viceland series, Harriet & Bobby Get Married and Plane Spotting for Turtle Canyon.

Bringing his brand new show ‘Off Limits’, Jonny Pelham has something to say. But he’s not here to say just anything. He’s going to be talking about the sort of things that are usually off-limits. In dating, family gatherings, hanging out with mates and most social situations. There’s always somethings that are ‘off limits’.

Jonny says ‘What better place to talk about it than in a comedy show with a bunch of strangers?’ Off Limits’ is a personal, provocative and hilarious hour that should not be missed.

The Roebuck have organised amazing deals on food too!
