Event description

Description

A brilliant evening of fabulous stand-up comedy featuring four professional comedians hot off the UK comedy circuit. Prepare to be entertained. Fast becoming one of our favourite venues, the compact hall at St MIchael’s Primary School becomes a venue for our “pop-up comedy club.” It’s a fundraiser for the school and a much sort after night out in the lovely Hertfordshire town of Bishop's Stortford.

A top-night is on the cards with Harriet Dyer, President Obonjo, Aaron Simmonds and veteran comedian Duncan Oakley on guitar, harmonica and vox humana.

Tickets are just £15 with profits going to the School PTA coffers.

Duncan Oakley has been a musician since the age of six, has performed on the UK comedy circuit since 1999, appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, on BBC Radio 4 and at many summer festivals as well as starring in Beat24's feature film 'Frontman' and short film 'Read Between the Signs.' Duncan was voted "English Comedian of the Year" in 2015 and "Midlands Comedian of the Year 2016."

“Oakley certainly has the gift of the gag and the sharp mind to go with new comedic opportunities when they present themselves on the night.” The Reveiws Hub
"Oakley is an accomplished guitarist, drummer and harmonica player, but his biggest talent is his relentless bonhomie, making for an engagingly inane performance." Chortle

Harriet Dyer was born in 1867 to an otter collector called Maurice and a bobsleigh polisher called Mandy. They were very pleased to see her and she liked the cut of their jib. They all ran away to sea in a beautiful pea green boat and lived on musty kumquats and pork gelatin. Due to the lack of nutrients in said diet their teeth eventually fell out - All was okay in the end though because it just so happened to be Maurice and Mandy's ivory wedding anniversary so Maurice crafted a necklace for his beloved out of their rotten teeth.

It was then she knew that even the most ridiculous of dreams can one day become reality.

“Dyer exists in a joyful equilibrium, at the point where self-depreciation and a total embracement of oddness meet in utterly likeable harmony… Beautifully, brilliantly weird… Absolutely worth a watch” Broadway Baby

President Obonjo, is an upcoming and increasingly successful stand-up comedian. As the larger-than-life, uber-confident, self-appointed, side-splitting dictator of 'Lafta Republic', President Obonjo has quietly been leading a comedy revolution to become the first President to take over the comedy industry by storm. H

“It’s a great comic construct, with lots of seized opportunities for playing with the clichés” Steve Bennett, Chortle

Aaron Simmonds has been failing to stand up for 29 years, luckily he is far better at comedy than standing up. He has a unique perspective on life, usually of people's belly buttons, which gives him stories to tell and a sore neck.

“A comedian going places"*
“His routine unfolded with great, measured skill. A class act." Chortle

*Places that are wheelchair accessible.

Tickets may be bought online on eventbrite for a fee but also from Emma Evans and other members of the PTA.
