Standing Firm in Power and Pride this Black History Month
Join us at the Grand Hall, Brent Civic Centre for an evening of celebration, strength, and unity during Black History Month. Together we’ll honour Black history, culture, and achievements through powerful discussions, inspiring dance, music, and theatre performances, and insightful reflections from our contributors.
Before we begin, performers from Phoenix Rising will play steel pan, starting us off on a warm and uplifting note.
The evening will open with a welcome from TV presenter and our host Aaron Bridgeman, and an address from Deputy Leader of Brent Council, Councillor Mili Patel, before we hear about how Black History Month UK began, shared by its originator, journalist and activist Akyaaba Addai-Sebo in conversation with radio and TV producer Rosemary Laryea.
We'll then watch a dance performance from talented young people from Hillside Performing Arts, before a live music performance, followed by a panel discussion on the theme of 'Power,' featuring influential voices including Dawn Butler MP for Brent East, entrepreneur and community leader Anita Whittaker.
We'll close the evening with a musical theatre piece on Malcolm X coordinated by cultural producer and advocate Rachel Victor-Sampson.
The event will close with reflections from our host, leaving space for connection, celebration, and pride. And of course—free food will be available for all guests.
Don’t miss this celebration of heritage, culture, and collective strength!
