About this event

Travel & Outdoor • Other

Astronomy enthusiast Michael Lomotey from "Stow Stargazers" will lead us through an engaging presentation introducing the basics of stargazing and essential tips for astronomy in an urban setting.

The evening will also feature an exclusive guided walk through the reserve to view the night sky (weather permitting) with a chance try out what we have learnt during the presentation and to try to locate a few constellations. The event will take place regardless of the weather and night sky conditions, and is a chance to enjoy this wonderful urban nature reserve after hours.

It’s not essential but feel free to bring binoculars and a red-light torch. Wrap up warm for your exclusive evening tour. All profits from this event are invested into London Wildlife Trust’s conservation and education work and the care of its nature reserves.

Stowstargazers brings people together to enjoy nature whilst experiencing the night sky. We have a passion for sharing knowledge and advice on all aspects of stargazing, learning together what is on show and giving tips for how to view the celestial sights. Michael of Stowstargazers has been an avid hobby astronomer ever since being captivated by the milky way as a child. @stowstargazers

Frequently asked questions

Will the event go ahead even if the sky is cloudy/weather is bad?

Yes - the introductory talk will take place indoors, then unless it isn't safe to do so we will head out on a walk around the reserve. If it is not possible to see the night sky we will share some of the wonderful facts about Walthamstow Wetlands as a nature reserve.

How to get here?

We recommend where possible that you travel by public transport - Walthamstow Wetlands is serviced by the 123 and 230 buses from Tottenham Hale and Blackhorse tube stations, or you can walk from either of these. Please allow plenty of time for your journey as the event will start promptly.

Is there car parking on site?

It is possible to park on site by prior arrangement, for which there will be a car parking charge via the onsite payment machine. The car park will be open from 6.15pm.

What is the refund policy?

London Wildlife Trust will refund the ticket value(£22) if requested 7 days before the event.

Why do I have to pay?

Walthamstow Wetlands is not accessible 24/7 so the site will be opened especially for this event. All proceeds go towards covering the costs for the event, and supporting LWT's wider nature recovery work across London.

What if I can't afford a ticket?

We want our events to be as inclusive and accessible as possible - we can offer a limited number of free places to those who need them. For more information on eligibility, and to book your place please email engagement@wildlondon.org.uk
