Event description

Description

Stargazing experience with a large telescope. A special event to capture the best the March skies have to offer us and see the magnificent core of the Milky Way. This will include an introduction to the night sky, famous constellations and stars that you can see with your eyes which I will point out with a laser pointer. We can then use a telescope to look more closely at some of the special things in the sky that night and learn a litlle about how a large telescope works. We will also use binoculars and I will take some photos for you to take as mementos. To see the best the night sky has to offer, we will start around 2am. From this time we will be able to look at the bright core of the Milky Way as it rises over the caldera, the planets Jupiter, Mars and Saturn will be on glorious display, the great Hercules Cluster will be overhead and the famous Omega and Eagle Nebulae will be easy to find. Even the International Space Station will fly overhead. The sun rises after 6am so we will get 4 hours of good stargazing.

The cost is £75 per person with a £20 deposit to secure the booking. The balance to be paid in cash on the night (euros or sterling). There would be a maximum of 4 guests to ensure plenty of telescope time.

We will meet at the Hotel entrance at 2am sharp before moving a short distance to where we will observe from.

Please note that the weather on the mountain is generally clear even if it is cloudy at lower levels so don’t worry if it’s cloudy where you are. On rare occasions when the weather isn’t good, we will inform you in advance. For this reason, please ensure you provide us with a mobile number.

By its nature, stargazing in the dark in a volcanic landscape carries some risk. We take your safety seriously and will not expose you to unnecessary risk. By booking this tour you agree to indemnify us against any claims for injury or loss of personal belongings not caused by our negligence. All vehicles carry a first aid kit, torches, a fire extinguisher and are fully maintained. Staff have been trained in administering first aid.
