Jessica Voorsanger is a multimedia artist whose work explores popular culture and society's obsession with fame and celebrity, in particular the relationship between fan and idol. She is known for her fluid approach to media - the projects themselves dictating whether she uses painting, photography, performance or film. She has exhibited widely in the United Kingdom, United States and Germany.
In this Stars on Starting Out event, Jessica will discuss her career to date, and exploring successful strategies for starting out in the creative industries. Jessica will be introduced by Sheffield-based artist Alison J Carr
The event will be followed by an informal networking opportunity, over drinks, for local artists and makers.
Our series of Stars on Starting Out talks are aimed at under- and post-graduates, emerging and progressing artists, makers and creative businesses, and anyone with an interest in visual arts, architecture and design. Taking place throughout October, guest speakers include sculptural artist Alex Chinneck, Paul Simmons of design studio Timorous Beasties and ceramicist Kate Malone.
Each guest speaker will be introduced by a local artist, maker or designer and the talks will be webcast to a wider audience. Stars on Starting Out builds on Yorkshire Artspace’s annual ‘Starting Out’ programme, which has delivered creative professional development to Sheffield creatives for the past 14 years.
Part of Sheffield Hallam University’s Catalyst: Festival of Creativity.
