Delivered by trainers from MENTA Business, the Start-up programme takes place over one day and covers key aspects of starting a business: business planning, finance and marketing. There will also be downloadable content covering the journey to net zero and why it’s important for businesses to reduce their carbon footprint

The programme is for people aged at least 16 and looking to start a business. Early-stage businesses (up to 24 months old) that would benefit from training and support are also eligible. You (or your business, if you are already trading) will need to be based in Norfolk.

The workshops cover:

Business planning (10.00-11.30):

  • Is self-employment right for you?
  • Generating business ideas
  • Legal entities
  • Market research
  • Viability
  • Licenses, insurances and HR responsibilities

Finance (12.00-13.30)

  • Requirements of HMRC
  • Time periods for storing paperwork/electronic copies
  • Allowable expenses
  • Profit and loss
  • Using Excel spreadsheets
  • Off-the shelf-solutions – cloud accounting options

Marketing (14.00-15.30)

  • What is marketing?
  • Branding and logo design
  • Marketing plan
  • Engaging adverts (the AIDA model)
  • Website options
  • How Google works (SEO)
  • Social media tips
  • Press releases
  • Networking

To complement the programme, optional one-to-ones with MENTA Business advisors are also available.

Once registered, you will be sent a link to an online form, which will ask for information about where you are on your business journey.
