Essex School Direct is the largest and most successful teacher training provider in West Essex. If you are looking for a new challenge during these uncertain times , or maybe you have a degree and would like to put it to good use, consider teaching. Currently we are training 54 teachers, both primary and secondary, in over 20 Good & Outstanding schools.

We work with Tes Institute (our accredited provider) and also with the vast majority of secondary schools in the Epping Forest area, Harlow and Chelmsford, plus a select group of schools in Havering. We also have primary teaching training hubs in Harlow and Chelmsford. Our completion rate is sector-leading – last year, it was 97%, which is significantly higher than most programmes. The majority of our trainees find employment in local schools. (Our trainees often know about opportunities long before anyone else and schools like dealing with a training provider they know and trust.) There are lots of teachers in all of our local schools that have trained with us.

It’s a great time to be joining the profession - starting pay is good and there are strong promotion opportunities. We have a part-time route for those who would be unable to train full-time and we pride ourselves on being a flexible and caring team. Our trainees are a very diverse group, ranging in age from early 20s to mid-50s and beyond; some come straight from university, many are career changers, others are returning to work after starting families.

Organiser Essex School Direct

Organiser of Start your teacher training journey with Essex School Direct!

Essex School Direct is based at Davenant Foundation School and has a long tradition of successful teacher training.

There are over 20 secondary and primary schools in the Essex School Direct Partnership across the West Essex, Harlow, Chelmsford and Havering areas, all judged to be outstanding or good (Grade 1 or 2) by Ofsted and managed by Davenant Foundation School as the ‘lead school’.  The unique blended learning programme combines school based training, on-line learning materials, a network of experienced subject specialists to deliver pedagogy and subject knowledge and a number of off-site visits to special schools, primary schools and Leading Teacher days.

All of the schools have a track record of working with university PGCE providers. The working partnership has been in existence for over 6 years which ensures that cooperation between the schools is established and is a strength of the partnership.  Each school provides a fully trained Mentor for each trainee, supported by a Pathway Tutor from TES Institute.

Our School Direct programmes are accredited by the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) and they provide a blend of online learning and in-school experience leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and an option to add a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). The PGCE is accredited by our partner university (UEL) and is subject to annual review.

TES Institute, a leading teacher training provider, is delighted to be working in partnership with Davenant Foundation School and its partners to deliver School Direct Initial Teacher Training (ITT) through Essex School Direct.

TES Institute is committed to supporting school based teacher training, helping schools to create great teachers.  Through our team of highly experienced Pathway Tutors working in partnership with schools and trainees, TES Institute combines the best of in-person and online learning to deliver truly flexible teacher training. Starting with just 2 partnerships and 27 trainees in 2013-14, TES Institute have trained 100s of teachers since, and have expanded further with 7 partnerships, expanding from Essex into Suffolk and Kent. TES schools work in partnership to share best practice and develop and deliver high quality teacher training.
