The "Starting School" workshop will take place on ZOOM on June 26th 2021 at 7.30pm -9.30pm
- E-BOOK
Each attendee will receive a detailed "Starting School" E-Book which will further support parents/carers in preparing their child(ren) for the transition to preschool/school for the first time.
The E-Book contains detailed advice, support strategies, recommendations to support you and your child as they transition to preschool/school for the first time.
For many parents, their child(ren) making the transition to preschool/school for the first time can be a daunting experience.
For so long as parents you have been your child's voice, advocating for them and now you prepare to help them go out in to the world without you by their side for the first time.
For many children starting preschool/school can be a confusing and potentially upsetting time. Starting preschool/school will bring about monumental change in your child's life. For many that change, can be incredibly upsetting.
The "Starting School" Workshop will seek to :
- Provide parents with practical strategies on how to prepare their child for the upcoming transition
- Highlight the importance and implementation of Visual Supports such as Social Stories (TM), Countdown Calendars, Morning Routines, Weekly Schedules and Transition Supports.
- Highlight Life Skills /Self-Help Skills to practice and progress over the Summer months in advance of starting school/preschool
- Model the implementation of Social Stories, Countdown Calendars, Morning Routines, Weekly Schedules, Transition Supports.
- Discuss the use and implementation of Communication Passports
- Provide practical strategies in relation to day to day Schooling challenges such as uniform sensitivities, school refusal, lunchtime challenges, big emotions.
- Provide practical information and strategies on what your child needs to be able to do before starting preschool/school.
- Strategies of support in relation to emotional regulation, separation anxiety.
- Starting School Book and Media Recommendations
- Question and Answer Time
