Description

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to pay our respects to three startups.

TechHub want to look at the “fail fast – learn quick” culture that is everywhere in the startup world and thought that moving eulogies from the CEOs of failed startups would be an excellent way to start. Everyone can talk about success, but it takes something special to talk about failure.

Startups will often have a booming launch party, spend forever finding a cofounder and if they’re lucky, get acquired by larger companies… but this not the only exit strategy. They sometimes (ok, to tell the truth – statistically quite often) fail. Teams split up, customers don’t show up, investors pull back. TechHub is really keen to engage with the culture of failing fast and learning from mistakes.

If you’d like to come and mourn some startups, hear their stories and learn from their mistakes then keep an eye on this page for more details about how and when to register.

Loot was a banking service aimed at helping young people know more about their spending, so they can do more with their money. The company was founded in 2014, had up to 60 employees and raised £12.1M from investors including Speedinvest, Rocket Internet & RBS. Loot Founder and CEO Ollie Purdue will be sharing their story.

Louise is a serial entrepreneur, but will be telling the story of her first business, a turn-key bar-restaurant concept which introduced premium tequila to the UK market. After working on the business for 4 years, and after raising £1m, the financial crisis hit, and her financiers pulled the investment. Louise will share the story of what happened, and what she's gone on to do since.

After launching another business, in fashion ecommerce, Louise is now co-founder and MD of Jack & Jill, which she runs with her husband. Jack & Jill is a digital wellness marketplace that enables the exchange of wellness products, services, ideas, thought leadership and support globally. It is being positioned as the go-to philanthropic brand globally associated with wellness. The business began earlier this year, initially in the form of a corporate wellness consultancy.

Louise is also a marketing consultant and interim specialist with 20 years’ experience in the corporate sector, working for premium firms in top tier banking, Big 4 and Magic Circle Law (Goldman Sachs, EY and Freshfields) She is also an artist: a model, dancer, studying actor, and trustee on the board of a children's theatre and film school charity.
