Startup Spotlight

Starting a business from your bedroom

Do you ever wonder how people actually go about starting up their own business? How do they manage their time, balancing full-time study, and a job to pay for necessities whilst committing their lives to developing an idea?

Join us for this StartUp Spotlight, where you'll hear from Rob and Naeem who created their Manchester-based company, Intergalactic Gaming, whilst in their final year at University.

They will share their entertaining and very useful startup story with you, addressing many practical questions which often arise when it comes to starting up a new business.

It’s easy to look at large successful companies such as Amazon, Apple or Google and think, “I could never start something like that.” But remember, it’s not an overnight mission; companies like this took decades to get where they are today.

Everything starts as nothing.

Entrepreneurs didn’t start by creating Amazon, Apple, and Google, they initially created an online bookstore, a computer, and a search algorithm.

For Josh and Naeem it was a bedroom, but for you it could be a garage, a basement, or halls. Every business has humble beginnings. It’s not about where you start - it’s where you end up.

These informal events are designed to entertain and inform budding-entrepreneurs from The University of Manchester, from all subject backgrounds, on aspects of starting a venture from the entrepreneur’s perspective. They involve a short presentation followed by chance to ask the the speaker questions. The format is turn up, get involved and leave feeling inspired!
